Speech and Language Units

Introduction: The Language Units have been in our school since 1994. It is a joint venture between the H.S.E. and the D.E.S. There are 7 children in both Junior (Sn infants to 1st) and Senior (2nd to 6th) Units. Pupils spend at least a year in the Unit, and are often offered a second year if it is deemed necessary and beneficial. They then return to their base school.

Curriculum : pupils are taught all the curriculum subjects except Irish by a primary teacher, with the assistance of an S.N.A. Their exemption from Irish must be granted by the base school. Each Unit has an assigned Speech and Language Therapist. She does both group and individual therapy sessions and liaises with the class teacher.
