We hope you are keeping safe at this difficult time. We know that our children miss the structure of school life and the company of their friends.

World Book Day-March 5th

Lots of boys and girls dressed up as their favourite characters on March 5th. Ms Simpson and her class made a beautiful collage.

Challenge to Change Room 13

Third Class girls in Room 13 are currently taking part in Challenge to Change . Their project is entitled ” Is There a Climate For Change?” They have done lots of work on this project. They created informative posters in groups. They want to raise awareness of global warming throughout the school and wider community. There is a challenge to change noticeboard and a committee to steer the project.

The girls have made a list of small practical things we can all do to save our beautiful planet. These changes can make a big impact globally, and can help preserve our planet for future generations.

Congratulations to you all! Everybody got a framed photograph of themselves to take home to their families.

Visit from Garda Mounted Support Unit 

On Wednesday February 12th we had a visit from Garda Kenny and Garda Daly on their horses Cumhall and Dultach.

The guards gave information about their horses.
Everybody listened and waited patiently to rub one of the horses.
The queue started.
Everybody got a turn to rub Cumhall or Dultach.

Cumhall and Dultach are based in The Phoenix Park with stables at Árus an Uachtaráin. The duties of the unit are community policing, event control, crowd control and searches for missing persons. Thank you Garda Kenny and Garda Daly for coming to visit us.

Fashion Show

On Sunday February 16th a fashion show took place in Hotel Kilkenny in aid of The CBS and Presentation Primary schools. It was a huge success! The Clothes were provided by Goods, Detail Menswear, Radical Menswear, Kilkenny Dance Shop and Hennessy Sports. A huge thank you to Margaret Harkin from Goods, who organised the event, to Hotel Kilkenny, who provided a room free of charge, to Edward Hayden who gave his time as MC free of charge and to Miriam Walsh, who made a guest appearance. Thanks also to the Parents’ Councils, models,  staff from both schools and from Goods, parents, boys and girls  and all who supported the event.

We would also like to thank Emily’s Art, Tip Top Toes, Biddy’s Horse Shoes and Turning Heads for helping to make the event such a success. Mile buiochas also to the companies who set up stalls, sponsored great prizes, and the advertisers who made cash donations.  Approximately €10,000 was raised !!Everybody had a great afternoon. Thanks for the face painting and the kids’ disco. We could not have done this without all the support from local business people. So please everybody remember to shop local and support local business.

Confirmation February 29th

Congratulations to our sixth class girls who made their Confirmation on February 29th. Thanks to all the teachers involved in preparing the girls for this wonderful event. We hope you all had a great day celebrating with your families.

Dogs Trust

Maeve from Dogs Trust came to visit us with Penny her beautiful golden retriever. She gave great advice on caring for our pets.

Annual Book Fair

Our annual Book Fair, organised by Miss Moran in Room 13,  took place on Friday January 31st. She drew up a timetable so everybody got a chance to firstly browse and then  buy some great books.

There are some great posters around the school advertising the Book Fair.

There were great books at very good prices available.
The Book Fair was a great success.

Surprise Santa Visit

What a wonderful surprise everybody got on Wednesday December 18th. Santa came to visit us with his chief elf. He heard some great songs and poems in Irish and English on his tour of the classrooms.

Santa got a GREAT welcome with lots of hugs in Room 3.
Boys and girls in Room 4 asked very intelligent questions!
Room 5 were delighted to see Santa!
Santa was very welcome in Room 6 too!
Room 7 had a lovely poem to entertain Santa.
Room 8 were thrilled to see Santa!
All the boys and girls were very excited when Santa called in.
The Second Class girls, from Room 10 and The Library,  and the boys and girls from Room 17 got a great surprise.
Santa’s last call was to the hall, where he met third and fourth classes. They were thrilled to see him.

Thank you Santa for coming to visit us. Thank you elves for all your help, and thank you for all the treats. Thank you Ms Deasy for inviting Santa to The Pres, and thank you Clare for giving out all the treats . Míle buiochas Daidí na Nollag. Tóg sos mór tar éis na Nollag agus tar ar ais arís i 2020.

Christmas Plays and Concerts 2019

We were all treated to beautiful songs and plays by Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First Classes and the Junior Language Unit. They all performed for the school and their parents. All the boys and girls were wonderful. Míle buiochas to their teachers, SNA’s and the boys and girls themselves for all their work in preparing their shows.

Ms O’ Donoghue led the way with the very entertaining Popsico song! Santa did a great dance!

Junior Infants sang some beautiful songs in three languages, English, Irish and Spanish! They were great !

The school, and all the parents and families really enjoyed all the performances. A big thank you to everybody involved.

Parents’ Council: thank you SO much for organising the Christmas Raffle during the Christmas shows. We would also like to thank the sponsors who gave fabulous prizes for the raffle. It was a huge success. Thanks also for the selection boxes which were raffled off in a free draw for every class. The Board of Management, staff, parents and children really appreciate all you do for the school.

Kilkenny Christmas Tree Festival St Canice’s Cathedral

The Christmas Tree Festival which is part of Yulefest Kilkenny takes place from the 5th to the 10th of December. Our school has three wonderful entries.

The Butterfly Tree was created By Ms Murphy, with assistance from Ms Bryan, 6th Class girls and her little helpers in Room 1.

Team Hope: Christmas Shoebox Appeal

A big thank you to all the boys and girls, and their families who brought in Shoebox gifts for children in need in areas of conflict and poverty. There was a huge response to the appeal, and the children who receive these gifts will be thrilled.

Our Senior pupils went around the school and collected all the shoeboxes, which were ready for collection on November 12th. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

Pizza Making in Supermac’s

Mrs Brennan’s 3rd and 4th class had a great treat on Thursday November 21st. They went to Supermac’s and made their own pizzas! Congratulations to Lexi Mc Cormack, who won the Supermac’s Halloween colouring competition and the prize was yummy!

Halloween 2019

Scary Show

Everybody looked amazing on Friday October 24th. Our “Scary Siulóid” became a Scary Show instead. Adults and children made a huge effort with very little notice, and entertained everybody with songs, poems and dances.

October 2019

Events 

October is a very active month here in The Pres. On October 8th,our  3rd to 6th classes took part in the  Annual Primary Schools Cross Country Challenge in the Castle Park. The training, which has been going on since September, has greatly improved fitness. Third class ran 500m, 4th class ran 800m and 6th class 1000m ! Well done to you all, we are proud of you!

Presentation Football Team

Our girls’s football team is back in action and competing in their second season. They had a wonderful win against a Competitive Goresbridge team on October 8th. The first match of the season was against St Canice’s and then the Gealscoil was next.  The girls showed tremendous spirit in those matches. The team is going from strength to strength since last year. They learned the skills, like hand passing, kicking, tackling and blocking and the solo at lunch time. Briain Riain very kindly came to do a session with the girls and talked about inclusion, participation and enjoyment. We appreciated that. Thank you Briain. They had great fun last year playing a league and everybody enjoyed the “All Ireland Final” at the end.  Míle buiochas do na muinteoirí freisin. Don’t forget all new players are welcome. We wish the team and their coaches all very the best for the rest of the year.

Welcome back everybody! We hope you had a great Summer and are ready for the new school year. We would like to extend a special welcome to new members of staff, to our new Junior Infants and to all the boys and girls who are new to the school this year. We hope you will all be very happy in The Pres.

June Activities 2019

June has been an incredibly busy month in the Pres. We have had school tours, 3 Sports Days, Junior Infant Fun Day, Sixth Class Show, Bake sale , official opening of the Junior Yard, to mention a few of our events.

Senior Infants Sports Day

Senior Infants had their novelty sports day on June 25th. They had great fun.

We need to concentrate.
Can our team win?
All the teams looked great in their team colours. Dad is enjoying it too!
The ball and bat  race was great.
The long relay race is hard, but we can do it.
The sack race is great fun, even if we fall!

Thanks to our teachers for the fun sports days and thanks to the Mams and Dads who came to enjoy the fun in the sun.

Junior Infant Fun Day

Junior Infant Fun Day took place on June 26th. The sun shone and everybody had a great time. There was a huge variety of activities to enjoy. All the Junior infants took part in parachute games, Gaelic football skills, novelty races and target practice.  There were sand stations and water and bubble stations, They also enjoyed  face painting and a Disco! Thank you so much to the Junior Infant teachers and to the other teachers involved. A big thank you also to Sixth Class, who were fantastic helpers in all the activities.

Sixth Class Play: Jo White and The Seven

Sixth class put on a great play for the school and their parents on June 18th and 20th. Everybody enjoyed it, and there was lots of humour and talent on display.

The Seven perform on The Y Factor after taking advice fro Jo, who is living safely in their flat. The judges are impressed. They win the Y Factor!

The Seven save Jo and everybody is happy. Gerty Flirty, Maya Playa and Chloe Showy are very interested in The seven ! The Facebook proposal was rejected cas she’s on Instragram, but they will of course remain friends!
What a great cast and a great show. Thank you sixth classes Ms Mc Dermot, Ms O’ Meara and Ms Browne.

 

Junior fun Sports Day

First classes from Rooms 4, 5, 6 and 17 had their fun sports day on Friday 21st. They looked great in their team colours and matching face paints. There was a variety of novelty races and they had great fun.

Our annual Sports Day took place on June 19th. It was a brilliant success. The sun shone and everybody had great fun.

Annual Cake Sale

Our annual cake sale took place on June 7th . It was a brilliant success. A big thank you to Ms Bolger, fifth and sixth class teachers, fifth and sixth class pupils, all the teachers who helped, parents who baked wonderful treats, and thanks to the boys and girls who bought the treats !  Thanks also for supporting the school raffle for Zambia. The raffle money is going to provide school supplies for children in Zambia. Ms Murphy is going there in the Summer to work with children there.

The Official Opening of our Junior Yard with Special Guest : Brian Cody

Brian Cody and Miss Deasy both acknowledged the work done fundraising for the resurfacing of the yard. They thanked all involved for all their hard work and dedication.
Dylan cut the ribbon with the help of his dad Tomas and Brian. Deborah’s Garden was then officially opened. Deborah Phelan was a very active member of our Parents’ Council. Sadly she passed away in July 2018. The garden will be a reminder to us all of what a wonderful person she was, sadly missed by her family and friends in The Pres.

First Holy Communion 2019

On May 19th second class girls from Rooms 10 and 13 and 17 made their First Holy Communion.  It was a wonderful occasion. Father Scriven said Mass. The choir sang beautifully. After Mass there was coffee, tea and treats in the school. After that everybody celebrated with their proud parents and families. A big thank you to Fr Scriven, Sr Maria, Mrs Millea, Ms Mc Carthy, Mrs O’ Shea and Mrs Fitzpatrick for all their work and preparation, which ensured that the day was a great success.

On Monday May 20th the girls came in to school in their finery to get their photographs taken by Ben Power from hotzphotography. Everybody was looking fabulous as they did a parade around the school. You will treasure your group photograph of your friends and classmates, when you get older!

 More May Events

May is a really busy month in school. We have had Jabba Jabba  Jembe drumming workshops, African dancing, cycling safety and  skills, flower planting, school tours and the Book Fair.

 

Book Fair : the book fair took place in the hall on May 2nd and 3rd. It was a great success. All the classes visited it and got some lovely books. Thanks to Miss Moran for all her work on the Book Fair and We are Writers project.

Cycling Ireland

Coaches from Cycling Ireland have been providing lessons on cycling and road safety this month.

We are learning great skills.
We will be safe on the road now, thank you.

Sprocket Rocket

Coaches from Sprocket Rocket came to our school and provided a foundation cycling skills  programme . After completing Level 3 of each skill, boys and girls were presented with a Sprocket Rocket certificate. Races were held on the final day too. It was great fun and everyone learned a lot.

Junior Infants First School Tour

Friday May 17th was a big day for the boys and girls in Rooms 1, 2 and 3. They headed off in big busses to Nore Valley farm. Some little people were up since 6am! By all accounts the chicks were the favourite, followed by the donkeys and of course going on the bus!

 

We can’t wait to go on the bus for our first school tour.

New Junior Infants: on Wednesday May 29th we welcomed our new Junior Infants and their parents to our school. We look forward to seeing you all next September.

School closed Monday 3rd and Tuesday June 4th.                                                                                                                                              Sports Day and Official opening of the Junior Yard at 2pm after Sports on June 7th. Teachers and Parents Council have been  working hard on these events.
