French Week: We had a great week in school. 5th. and 6th. classes put up posters, flags and art work all around the school. Lessons in French vocabulary,French songs and poems were on the intercom every morning. At assembly on Thursday we had a french play and song. C’est formidable!
Handwriting Competition: We are delighted to see such wonderful examples of handwriting all the way up the school, from Junior Infants to Sixth. Examples of our winners’ work can be seen on the school notice board.
Seachtain na Gaeilge: We celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge from March 12th. to 16th. We had lots of activities going on around the school. On Friday we had a Concert and Ceilí. Bhí amhráin, dánta, ceol agus rincí againn. Mrs. Moran was a wonderful M.C. In the afternoon we had a Céilí with music by Máirtín . Go raibh míle maith agat a Mhairtín. Mrs. Kelly provided instruction for the dances. Everybody was dressed in many shades of green white and gold on the 16th. Bhí craic mór an lá sin!
World Book Day: Many classes celebrated World Book Day by visiting local bookshops to take part in activities.
Easter Competitions: The Parents’ Council organized two Easter Competitions. Junior Infants to First Class made Easter masks and headbands Second to sixth classes decorated eggs. They were given a demonstration on the art of egg decoration. The results were amazing! Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all involved. There were some wonderful displays to be seen all around the school.
Sr. Winnie’s Mission: All classes will have a raffle for an Easter egg. The money collected will go to a Presentation Sisters’ Mission in the Philippines to help chidren in need. We would ask our boys and girls to donate to the mission boxes that are in every classroom for the same cause. Thank you for your generosity in previous years.
Spike Ball News: All Ireland Winners! Congratulations to our 6th. class Spike Ball team. After becoming the Kilkenny County Champions, they went forward to the Southern Regional finals, which were held in Cork on March 9th. They beat Kerry, and then went forward to the National Finals, which were held in Limerick on March 27th. There were six teams representing different regions in Ireland. Our girls beat Kildare and came home with the winning trophy! No less than 250 schools had entered the competition, so thats some achievement. Tá sibh ar fheabhas a chailíní! Míle buiochas do gach duine. A day to remember for the school, especially since everybody got an ice-cream to celebrate the event! Thanks Mrs. Kelly!
Gaelic Football: 5th class are now learning gaelic football skills on Wednesdays after school until the end of the year. They are being trained by Ms. Laureena Murphy, her coaching assistants are Mrs. Kelly, Ms. Deasy and Ms. Ciara Kelly. Everybody is having great fun and learning a lot. Internet Safety Talk: on March 28th. The Parents’ Council organized a talk which was given by Community Guard Tadhg Mohally. This is an area of concern for many parents. Thanks to Guard Mohally for the informative talk.
Conrgatulations: Congratulations to Ms Emma Maloney and family, on the birth of her beautiful baby boy.
